What is the Samguk Yusa Park Golf Course?

Gunwi County in North Gyeongsang Province held a completion ceremony on October 16 for the first phase of the Samguk Yusa Park Golf Course in Ui-heung-myeon. The 81-hole course is the first stage of a larger project. According to the county, about 200 people attended, including Mayor Kim Jin-yeol and Gunwi County Council chair Seo Dae-sik.

What happens next?

The county plans to add 99 holes in a second phase, bringing the total to 180. The course will first be trial-operated after facility maintenance and operational preparation. The official opening is planned for the first half of 2027.

Why does it matter?

The county said the course is meant to improve sports access for residents and attract park golfers from across the country. The goal is to bring visitors who spend money on lodging and dining, supporting the local economy.

Tournament alongside the ceremony

The 5th Gunwi County Mayor's Cup Park Golf Tournament was held on October 16 and 17 alongside the ceremony.

For international fans

Park golf is a low-impact sport popular with older adults in South Korea, played with a hard ball and a club on a course with multiple holes. The course is still in its trial period, so visitors should check the county's official channels for current details on access and fees before planning a trip.
