What happened with Kim Min-jong and MC Mong?
Actor Kim Min-jong has withdrawn his criminal defamation complaint against rapper MC Mong. He disclosed the decision on SBS's variety show 'Mi Woo Sae Kki' (Mi Woo Sae Kki, a show featuring celebrities' daily lives), according to the report.
Why did the dispute start?
In May, MC Mong posted on social media naming several entertainment figures. He claimed that a relative of Cha Ga-won, chairman of Hundred Label, known as 'A', had encouraged him to gamble and ran a gambling group. MC Mong also claimed Kim Min-jong was close to A. Kim's side, through law firm Okims, called the claims baseless and false and said his reputation of 38 years had been seriously damaged.
Kim filed a complaint with police for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. He said Hollywood film appearances and advertising shoots were cancelled as a result.
Why did Kim withdraw the case?
After the dispute, MC Mong contacted Kim, admitted his mistake and apologized. In September, Kim said he had dropped the case the previous day, making the decision after careful thought to focus on becoming a better version of himself. On the show, he said he did it for his own peace of mind and that nothing more would be gained by continuing.
What about the Hollywood project?
Kim said a Hollywood film he had been preparing for three years was cancelled because another actor was cast. He said it was not meant to be, adding that the role was very good. He also said the director must have had a harder time.
For international fans
Kim Min-jong has been a performer for 38 years. The case involved claims made on social media rather than a court ruling, and the reports above describe allegations and responses from both sides.
