What happened with Jung Woo-sung?
Actor Jung Woo-sung resigned as an internal director of Artist Company on October 2, according to a report from Sports Kyunghyang cited by Sports Seoul. He had been scheduled to serve until March 28, 2027, leaving roughly six months of his term unfulfilled. He was appointed alongside Lee Jung-jae on March 29, 2024, and served about two years and six months.
Why is this drawing attention?
Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-jae have been close friends since they first worked together on the 1999 film Taeyang-eun Eopda. They co-founded Artist Company in 2016 and later worked together on the 2022 film Hunt, which Lee directed and starred in, with Jung also appearing. Their long partnership, both personal and professional, is why the change in Jung's business role has been noticed.
Jung has also been in the public eye since November 2024, when he acknowledged being the biological father of a son born to model Moon Ga-bi. At the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards, he said he would accept all criticism and take full responsibility as a father. Reports later said he had registered a marriage with a non-celebrity woman in August of last year, though his agency declined to confirm it.
Is the resignation linked to the controversy?
No confirmed link has been made. Reports say the reasons for his departure have not been specifically disclosed, and his shareholding in the company has not changed. Based on available information, it cannot be determined whether the resignation relates to the off-spouse child controversy or his private life, or whether the personal relationship between him and Lee has changed.
Jung's current work
Jung remains a shareholder and continues to act. He recently appeared in season 2 of the Disney+ series Made in Korea.
