What happened with Song Min-ho's apology?
WINNER member Song Min-ho posted a handwritten apology on his personal channel on October 9, over a charge of violating the military service law. He had received a one-year prison sentence with a two-year suspended sentence at the first trial on October 1, eight days earlier. In the post, he said he was sorry for causing concern and disappointment, and admitted that his irresponsible past choices were shameful. He pledged to reflect on his mistakes and to faithfully complete the remaining legal procedures and obligations.
How did Byun Yo-han react?
Actor Byun Yo-han not only liked the post but also left three heart emoticons as a comment. According to the report, the two have been close for about 10 years, and his public response showed that the friendship remains. Because the case involves military service, however, many online users reacted negatively to his visible support.
Why is this drawing attention?
This is not the first time a like on an apology post has caused debate. In August, director Lee Do-yoon of Netflix's 'Trauma Center' liked an apology from actor Ha Young about her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese collaboration history. Some netizens questioned why he had liked it, and speculation linked it to Ha Young's role in the show. Ha Young was later removed from 'Trauma Center' seasons 2 and 3, and Lovelyz member Jung Ye-in has joined the cast.
For international fans
For overseas fans, the key context is that in South Korea, public reactions to celebrities' apologies, even small gestures like a like or comment, can become controversial, especially when the issue involves military service or historical controversy.
